There is no cure for asthma, and the consequences of leaving it alone can be serious
News from our correspondent May 2 is World Asthma Day. Ruikang Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (hereinafter referred to as Ruikang Hospital) launched a free clinic to publicize relevant knowledge of asthma to the public. Experts said that the induction of asthma is related to many factors such as heredity, environment and allergies, and it is difficult to prevent and treat it.
Asthma, also known as bronchial asthma, is caused by various factors such as genetic factors, environmental factors, allergens and infections. Zhou Jihong, Director of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Ruikang Hospital, said that asthma is a common respiratory disease that mostly occurs in teenagers. According to the survey results of the national asthma prevalence and related risk factors released by the China Asthma Alliance, at least 300 million people in the world suffer from asthma, and there are 30 million asthma patients in my country, with an incidence rate of about 1.3%. Asthma cannot be cured at present, but it can be completely controlled after aerosol therapy with the help of an nebulizer mask and inhaler chamber. If asthma is left unattended, the consequences will be very serious. It will lead to emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other lung diseases, and acute attacks may even lead to death.
The general public's impression of asthma is that characters in film and television dramas suddenly have difficulty breathing, cough loudly, and need spray medicine for first aid. Zhou Jihong said that this is a typical symptom of an asthma attack. In our clinical practice, we often encounter patients who have repeated coughs and are not treated well with conventional anti-inflammatory drugs. It is only after an examination that they are found to be cough variant asthma. This cough can only be controlled with asthma medication.
In addition, many citizens feel that people with asthma should not exercise to avoid triggering asthma. Zhou Jihong said that this is a misunderstanding. Patients with exercise-type asthma are indeed not recommended to exercise, but this type of asthma is relatively rare. Ordinary asthma patients can do some soothing exercises to enhance their physical fitness, especially for children who are in the growth and development stage.
